Day 156 – Zero – Stevens Pass

Posted in : PCT blog on by : Nick

Miles to go: 188.3

Canada: 2655.2

Today I had to get to the Post Office in Skykomish to pick up my resupply package and as the weather continued to be very wet I decided to wait it out for the day in the comfortable ski lodge with other likeminded hikers.

After breakfast at about 9:30 I hitched the 16miles to Skykomish. I arrived at about 10am only to discover the Post Office doesn’t open until 11:30, so I went for a coffee to pass the time. After picking up my package I went to the deli for a milkshake before chatting with friends back home about the final stretch.

The hitch back to Stevens Pass was far easier than the outward journey as a guy at the Post Office had already offered me a ride and came back just after 1pm to get me back into the mountains. Back at the lodge after packing my resupply I collected all my dry gear together ready for packing tomorrow when I’ll head back onto the trail again, hopefully in better weather than today.

One of the fire closures (the Blue Lake fire) has now been lifted. That’s great news for me as it’ll save me the extra 39miles I’d have had to hike around the alternate. Dinner; Shepherd’s pie, broccoli, carrots & chocolate mousse for dessert.
